1.3 Installing ChessDB onto a Mac running OSX from a binary distribution of ChessDB

There are some Mac OS X binaries, but these are mainly untested and will only work on PPC - they are not universal binaries. Furthermore, they are unlikely to be for the latest version of ChessDB, so you would be wise to build ChessDB from source code on your own Mac. Howeverif you would rather not, then then following procedure has a reasonable possibility of working.

  1. Take a look at the downloads page and you might find a late version that suits your machine.
  2. Check that there is a suitable Mac OS X binary for your system. Any binaries on the Sourceforge site will have been untested by the maintainer of ChessDB since he does not own a Mac.
  3. Download and install Tcl/Tk Aqua which is a binary distribution of Tcl/Tk for the Mac.
  4. Download the Mac OS X binary. How they need to be installed will depend on how they were packaged. The Mac PPC binaries for ChessDB version 3.6.4 are in a tar file, which needs to be extracted in the directory /usr/local/. Other binary distibutions might be very differly configured.
